Municipal charging infrastructure

  • Project Duration: 06/2022 - 01/2023

Guidelines from and with municipalities: how can municipalities best incentivize charging infrastructure in order to get a lot of charging infrastructure as efficiently as possible.

The development of charging infrastructure is important for achieving the German target of 15 million electric cars defined in the Coalition Agreement. The role of the municipalities in the development of charging infrastructure is central. While some German municipalities have already developed dedicated approaches to further charging infrastructure and are quite advanced in this topic, others are still at the beginning of this process. In this project, guidelines are being created with recommendations for the development of charging infrastructure in municipalities.  We ask how municipalities can quickly achieve more charging infrastructure with as little effort as possible and how the valuable public space can best be used by all road users. To ensure that the recommendations are practical, we are developping the guidelines in close exchange with various municipalities and in cooperation with the German Association of Cities and Towns (Deutscher Städtetag) and the German Association of Cities and Towns (Deutscher Städte- und Gemeindebund).
