Unlike all other key sectors transport has not delivered emission reductions to date. Given the ever-increasing need for mobility of people and goods, a failure to get transport on a climate fast track puts the Paris targets at risk. Solutions to bring down emissions and to safeguard mobility and access are there but their implementation remains slow in most regions across the globe.

The COP24 Side-Event “A matter of urgency: How to get transport on a fast track to decarbonization“ is jointly organized by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and Agora Verkehrswende. It aims at identifying the main barriers that prevent transport from shifting to a sustainable pathway, showcasing leading initiatives for climate action in transport and emphasizing the electrification of road transport embedded in sustainable transport policy.
