Emmanuel  Bama

Emmanuel Bama is a computer science engineer based in Côte d'Ivoire and co-founder of the data and digital technology NGO Data Transport. Already as a student, Emmanuel has established  the collaboritve mapping initiative OpenStreetMap Côte d'Ivoire, aimed at digitally mapping his country, thereby promoting open data for life-saving applications.

With Data Transport, Emmanuel is focused on digitizing urban transport systems. Having led multiple initiatives at the intersection of transport, data and technology, Emmanuel is an active promoter of digital innovation and open technologies across West Africa.

What project are you working on – and what goals do you want to achieve with it?

I am a co-founder of a non-profit organization called Data Transport, which aims to improve African mobility through data and technology.

What is the most important take-away you gained during the fellowship for your work?

The most important take-away is that to transform transportation, it's crucial to consider the energy aspect - the Energy Transition.

What was the most surprising insight for you?

The most surprising insight for me is the use of solar energy in the energy transition in Germany, considering that sunlight isn't abundant there.
