The UFZ is one of the world’s leading research centres in the field of environmental research. It demonstrates ways in which a sustainable use of our natural resource base is possible for the benefit of both humankind and the environment. The Department of Economics works on current problems in the fields of water, (bio)energy and nature conservation as well as biodiversity and climate change. In this context questions of economic assessment, the organisation of institutions and decision-making processes as well as the instrumentation of environmental and resource policy are analysed.
