Management Change at Agora Verkehrswende

Agora Verkehrswende has a new Deputy Director: Wiebke Zimmer, formerly of the Öko-Institut, has replaced Günter Hörmandinger, who has transitioned to the European Commission

Berlin, 12 January 2022 – Dr. Wiebke Zimmer assumed the position of Deputy Director of the Berlin-based think tank Agora Verkehrswende at the beginning of 2022. Dr. Zimmer, an expert in sustainable transport who has a PhD in physics and Diplom in chemistry, was previously employed at the German environmental organisation Öko-Institut, where she was Deputy Director of the Department of Resources & Mobility. She has replaced Dr. Günter Hörmandinger, who, after three years at Agora Verkehrswende, is moving to the Secretariat-General of the European Commission, were he will assist with the implementation of the European Greeen Deal, particularly in the domain of transport.

“Wiebke Zimmer represents a superb addition to our team,” says Christian Hochfeld, Director of Agora Verkehrswende. “Over the last twenty years she has established a strong reputation across Germany as a leading expert on climate policy in the transport sector. Thanks to her considerable knowledge and experience in research and policy advising, she is sure to make a decisive contribution to our work during this crucial phase in the transition to climate neutral transport. I am very much looking forward to our work together. We wish Günter Hörmandinger the best of luck in his new role at the European Commission. In his leadership role at Agora Verkehrswende, he crucially shaped our work on European regulation and policy. We are extremely grateful for his contributions and service.”
