The chair was founded in 2009 and works on urban freight transport, integrated spatial planning and network design for freight transport, data mining and big data (floating car data) and freight transport modelling. As a member of the Center for Transformation Research and Sustainability (TransZent, Bergische Unisversität an Wuppertal Institute) the chair is targeted on developing concepts for sustainability in freight transport.
